Retired Physician, Dr. and Healthcare Professional

About Me

Meet Dr. James Armstrong Montana, a compassionate healer and avid adventurer who has crafted a remarkable journey filled with dedication to healthcare and a love for the great outdoors. Born on June 7, 1963, in Danville, Pennsylvania, his upbringing was rooted in the scenic landscapes of Kalispell, Montana. He exuded a remarkable passion for athletics, music, and fostering strong community bonds from his earliest years. His academic pursuits led him to Princeton University, where studying History became his focal point, interwoven with active engagement in various campus circles. Deeply anchored in his faith, family, and the breathtaking allure of Montana's wilderness, he seamlessly blends his ardor for tennis, sailing, skiing, hiking, hunting, and fly fishing.

Emerging from Flathead High School as a triumphant three-sport athlete and a harmonious contributor to the Concert Choir, he pursued higher education at Princeton University. Upon graduation, he embarked on an educational expedition, interning at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. While teaching held undeniable appeal, his enthusiasm for healthcare soon steered him back to the scenic embrace of Montana. There, he spent summers as a guide in Glacier Park and lent his expertise as a Ski Patrol member on Big Mountain in Whitefish. His heart's compass directed him to serve as a wilderness intern at the Wilderness Treatment Center, supporting young men with chemical dependencies.

His voyage into medical education commenced under the auspices of the esteemed United Church of Christ and Choir in Vermont. His medical residency unfolded at the revered Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, where he specialized in Family Medicine. This trajectory also entailed an instrumental internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. Driven by an unyielding dedication to underserved communities, he committed two years as a health officer for the Indian Health Service in Browning, Montana. Embracing his father's legacy, he collaborated in private practice in Kalispell and assumed the mantle of Chairman of the Family Medicine Department at KRMC.

The journey of service took him across state lines, witnessing his impactful contributions in Arizona before drawing him back to his Kalispell roots at MedNorth Urgent Care. From 2013 to 2020, he thrived as a devoted physician at CostCare in Missoula, Montana. Beyond medicine, his heart swelled with pride as he stepped into a volunteer assistant coach role, supporting his daughter's high school tennis team in 2019. The tapestry of his career remained interwoven with family practice and urgent care until his well-deserved retirement in March 2021.

James Armstrong Montana's narrative is one of unwavering dedication to improving lives through healthcare, a harmonious bond with nature's splendor, and a genuine commitment to personal growth. His story is a testament to the profound impact one can craft through compassion, service, and a zest for life's adventures.
